Fix PlayStation “Something Went Wrong” Error

If you already read every single article and every post about the PlayStation “Something Went Wrong” error, and you still can’t find the solution, this guide has the solution.

It’s Your Password

I’ll cut straight to the chase, my password was too long.

Some websites don’t allow passwords that are too long, but Sony decided to handle it the worst way by not telling you and letting you change the password to something long. You should still be able to log in to your account via your console.

Just change your password from your console to something that isn’t that long and try buying your game or logging into the PS app, it should work.

Are You Using A VPN?

Normally, VPN’s shouldn’t cause issues with Sony, I even play on PlayStation with a VPN.

There is a chance Sony doesn’t like your VPN server specifically because there are too many requests from it, so they take it as a DDoS attack and block it. If you suspect this is the issue, and you have a router VPN, run an Internet connection test on your console, then it should tell you.

The basic troubleshooting

I’m going to assume that you’ve already read through many posts and forums about this error and tried the basic troubleshooting like restarting your router or console, so I won’t write much about it, but in case you haven’t.

1. Restart your router, console, PC, and phone depending on what you are doing and from where.

2. Restore licenses.

3. Check PSN status.

4. Try adding funds to your PSN wallet from your card via the website or PS app.

5. If you can’t buy something, just in case, call your bank and ask if they are blocking the purchase.

6. Try to port forward, your network might be causing issues Sony has the port numbers here, and don’t worry about the PS5 or PS3 if you are still using that because the numbers are the same.

7. Try a different browser, specifically Google Chrome because Firefox was causing issues for me before.

8. Buy a gift card if nothing else works.

9. Switch to Passkey, but make sure you know the birthdate you set on your account or setup security questions and a back-up phone number, otherwise you can be permanently logged out of your account.
